Our History
The PWBL began its inaugural season in 2004 when a group of players decided to revive women's baseball in the Philadelphia area. The league was comprised of three teams for the 2004 season, the Thunder (League Champions, 6-0), the Inferno (3-3), and the Clash (0-6). The teams were run by a combination of player-managers and coaches, and all teams featured players from the greater Philadelphia area, Southern New Jersey and Delaware. All PWBL games were played on Sundays from June-August; league teams also played a number of exhibition games against a local men's league in July and August.
The PWBL tournament team formed in August and played in two national tournaments, placing second in each tournament. During Labor Day weekend, 2004, PWBL players trekked up to New York City to play against teams representing the New York Women's Baseball League and the Eastern Women's Baseball Conference. Games were played in the heart of Central Park. During Columbus Day weekend, 2004, PWBL players played in Delaware against teams representing the East Coast Women's Baseball League and the Eastern Women's Baseball Conference.
